Antibodies made in response to a food allergen are called IgE antibodies. They are similar to the antibodies that attack bacteria, which are called IgG antibodies. Just like IgG antibodies, IgE antibodies bind to a specific shape of antigen, or as it is called in food allergy—allergen.
